What references are there in the Qur’an regarding the new moon?

Allah tells us in the Qur’an that people asked His final Messenger about this:

They ask you concerning new moons. Say, they are but signs to mark fixed periods of time
for people and for pilgrimage. There is no virtue in your entering houses by the back door. Virtue lies in fearing Allah. Enter homes by the appropriate entrance and fear Allah that
you may prosper.
Qur’an 2:189

Islamic acts of worship are set by the lunar calendar. The new moon measures days, months and years, determines when the fast for the month of Ramadan should start, when to begin the pilgrimage and when festival days fall. The Lunar calendar enables people to calculate tides and draw up tidal charts, while moonlight enables people to move by land during cool dark nights.
Apparently there were many superstitions concerning the new moon but no one should associate it with any apprehension.
