I have been told that according to Shi’ah jurisprudence, a Muslim man may not take a non-Muslim woman as a permanent wife. Is this correct, and if it is, why is this so?

According to the rulings of Ayatollah al-Khoei, a Muslim may take a non-Muslim woman as his wife, regardless of the permanent or fixed-term nature of their marriage, provided she believes in a divine religion.
However, in my opinion, even if she believes in a divine religion, a Muslim may only take a non-Muslim woman as a fixed-term wife. This is with respect to completeness of her belief.
Allah Almighty tells us in the Qur’an:
…do not hold ties of marriage with unbelieving women Qur’an 60:10
